What I Learned During A 40-Day Sadhana

I was speaking to a friend about intention the other day. She asked me what my intuitive body was trying to tell me. What does your heart have to say? She asked. I closed my eyes and felt into her sentence. It’s telling me to get under the thing, I replied. To get under the crust and break through my aloneness.

A Sadhana is the intentional work of sitting with oneself and listening within.

It is a devotional practice performed daily over a specified duration. It may involve challenging kriyas (repetitive movements) to strengthen and stimulate the nervous system.

A Sadhana is a tool to connect, reflect, and engage your spirit.

I hosted the Create Your Crysalis 40-Day Sadhana leading to the Winter Solstice. The intention was to create your chrysalis—a space to connect your creative capacity, get clear, and develop the discipline to be consistent.

Please keep reading to see the top ten things I learned about myself during this event.

10 Things I Learned During the 40-Day Sadhana

  1. My appetite changed.
I craved basic foods (less acidity), fats, iron, magnesium, and red foods, including beets, raspberries, goji berries, and chard. I also ate more than usual and wanted cold juice and smoothies regardless of the cold weather.

  2. My desire for caffeine decreased.
I love coffee; it’s one of my favorite drinks. I consumed less than usual during the Sadhana, around half a cup.

  3. My body needed less sleep.
I naturally wake between 4 and 5 a.m. During the Sadhana, I started waking up at 3 a.m. At first, I stayed in bed and did Reiki on myself. By the end, I was ready to get up and start my day. I felt revitalized and fresh!

  4. I am hyper-aware of people’s thoughts.
Telepathy is too strong of a word to use, though I am very intuitive to individual intent and quick to sense the truth based on non-verbal information.

  5. My mind fixates on ideas, people, and memories.
I am always thinking by reading, writing, researching, listening, gathering information, reviewing data, reflecting, and projecting. No wonder I crave fats: I need to feed my brain!

  6. I conflate theory with fact.
Facts are theories that have been tested, tried, and proven true. Theories are ideas, a system based on a sequence of ideas and data. A theory is an interpretation. A fact is a truth. A fact is measured and observed. A theory is created and includes explanations and interpretations.

  7. I felt more connected to those I loved.
The Sadhana included energy work, which sometimes involved sending a blessing to those we love. This practice made me feel very attuned to the people I care about and how I hold them in my heart.

  8. I felt overwhelmed in busy areas.
While grocery shopping, I was more sensitive than usual to the scents, sounds, and gestures of people in shared spaces. A dozen occurrences occurred when I had to leave and go home, so I changed my schedule to do errands at quieter times.

  9. I desired more time with nature.
I wanted to be immersed in the wind, water, and forest. I discovered paths and walking routes where I could stride between grand trees - their thick, green boughs waving from overhead.

  10. I loved sitting with the Sadhana members every day.
I meditate daily and perform rituals at dawn and dusk. Sitting with the community to share these sacred practices brings me such joy! It was a treat to pass on what I have learned to enthusiastic souls.

About The Wisdom Dakini Sadhana

The intention is for you to get clear, connect to your creative capacity, and develop the discipline to be consistent.

We will do a kriya for 40 days. This event includes access to the Tuesday and Saturday yoga classes with the purchase of your Sadhana ticket.

The Five Wisdom Dakinis are expressions of feminine energy, manifestations of emotional patterns, and ways to work with the vibrancy we each contain within to become more aware.

Dakini is a term from Tibetan Buddhism. It comes from the word khandro, which translates as ‘sky dancer.’

Inspired by Lama Tsültrim Allione's work, Seraphina has spent the last year exploring the themes and energies expressed by the Dakinis through movement, meditation, mudra, and prose.
