On Movement

All that is important is this one moment in movement. Make the moment important, vital, and worth living. Do not let it slip away unnoticed and unused.
— Martha Graham

I've been editing my writing and found a short story I composed at Kundalini Training in India.

It was inspired by the King Fishers that flew into the mirrored windows where we took class. Our course was punctuated by the birds flinging themselves against the glass, bill first, so it sounded like clumps of dirt exploding.

Many participants were upset by the shock of this event and hung shawls across the windows so the birds could not see themselves.

Out of sight, out of mind, or so they thought.

The banging continued. The birds were relentless in their habituated contact with the window.

While walking the seawall the other day, I discovered two cats yowling, Their noses pressed at the tip.

I sat down and watched, enchanted by their precision and dedication to holding each other's gaze. It didn't feel violent, like a fight.

Many people walked by. Some were bemused, some looked aghast, and some clapped their hands and stomped their feet to break up the tension.

One woman threw water at them, and one man threw rocks. A group ran at them, so the cats separated. Triumphant, the people smiled and nodded. We did it! their faces proclaimed as they sauntered away. But the cats took their place on the rocks, touched noses, and howled.

From moment to moment, we are sizing each other up, considering what the other person is carrying and how to engage.

When I was a nanny, the question was always when to step back and let the kids sort out their conflict on the playground or when to step in and guide a resolution.

The auric field, or the universal heart, is our first impression of another person.

We assess through various sensory data, such as tone and body language, especially those who are sensitive and self-aware.

Our interpretation depends on how clear, honest, and compassionate we are with ourselves.

I take more time to observe before acting, and I can feel when something needs immediate attention. Many times at the playground, I let the kids settle their affairs because I didn't feel there was a threat. A few times, I acted swiftly (on one occasion, when a child peed down the slide) and negotiated a smoother outcome for all involved.

I spoke to a friend this week about how much I enjoy silence. I am very comfortable inside myself and enjoy exploring my inner world.

I am content to be with people where it is quiet.

I am excited to collaborate and create spaces where we listen to our hearts and speak from this place of purpose and truth.

What we cultivate within radiates outwards into the auric field; all those around you feel your light.

And sometimes, this is more resonant than words.

What am I resonating with today? What is my inner mantra (word/vision), and how is it expressed in my movement? How am I promoting Love, Compassion, Light, and Truth in my language? What is my commitment, just for today?

These are questions for the Auric Field Chakra, Vyapini.

What is the Auric Field Chakra?

The auric field is also known as the Soul Seed or Soul Star. In Sankrit, it is Vyapini. It is the eighth chakra that is only recognized in Kundalini Yoga.

It is also called the Universal Heart, which integrates and connects the seven chakras along the spine.

Review the themes from the seven preceding chakras: calm (root), creative (sacral), courageous (navel), compassionate (heart), truth (throat), intuition (third eye), and surrender (crown).

Auric Field Chakra Themes

  • Sound: Silence

  • Color: White

  • Balanced: Universal Laws, Activates Seven Preseeding Chakras, Integrates Karmic Lessons/Patterns, Filters Vibrations

  • Blocked: Vulnerable, Overwhelmed, Hyper Sensitive/Reactive

About the Auric Field

The Soul Seed is a great wrapper of light that encapsulates the entire body. It is situated above the crown chakra at the top of the head, and the light moves from this point to the tips of the toes.

It connects us to Spirit, Divine Love, and Cosmic Frequencies and holds Karmic Patterns we’ve yet to digest. It is part of our individual Akashic Record and reflects our life purpose.

The Soul Star represents the Universal Laws we abide by to create harmony, peace, justice, truth, love, compassion, and freedom for all living beings. It radiates when we embody and express the virtues—the Sutras of Patanjali, the Six Perfections (Paramitas) of Buddhism, the 10 Golden Rules of Christ, and any other Divine Contract exposed through sacred scriptures.

Some call this space the ‘God Head’ or ‘Stellar Gateway’ used for astral travel and to connect to heavenly bodies or receive the incantations of the God/Goddess.

When all the other chakras are balanced and working together, the Auric Field is stronger, brighter, and more capable of reflecting light and listening to the world.

The Auric Field is your movement signature; it is how others perceive and receive you. It filters every interaction, grand or subtle, and influences each exchange.

I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each, it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one’s being, a satisfaction of spirit. One becomes, in some area, an athlete of God. Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire.

Ways to Observe the Auric Field

The following are some of the guidelines I use to work with the eighth chakra.

  1. Remaining silent and grounded in tense environments.

  2. Feeling/feeding a warmth at my heart that radiates outwards through my entire body.

  3. Reiki

  4. Envisioning light surrounding my body like an egg.

  5. Listening with my entire being.

  6. Sadhana

  7. Collaboration

  8. Creative expression through poetry, dance, and song.

  9. Clearing my subconscious through refining/eliminating what I am ingesting daily.

  10. Reviewing my writing from the past to integrate the lesson.

  11. Evaluation of my interpretations of events.
