The Somatic Core Series: Vertical Current
Vertical Current is the fourth portal inside Stomach Alive, where breath becomes your inner architecture of lift.
This class reconnects the root, diaphragm, and throat so you rise from the inside out—strengthening core intelligence, vocal expression, and the subtle current of self-trust that moves up the spine.
Your body is always speaking. Not in sentences, but in sensation—subtle pulses of truth that appear as instinct, pressure, softness, contraction, or light.
In this class, we work with Earth and Air—grounding through the feet and pelvis, while breath lifts and expands. As the practice deepens, Fire awakens through repetition, rhythm, and core ignition.
This is the moment in the journey where your posture, presence, and pranic field begin to change.
Breath as the Architecture of Inner Lift
Air is the fourth of the Five Great Elements and moves through the heart, lungs, and diaphragm. Breath is anatomical—oxygenation, pH regulation, vagal tone—and it is also philosophical:
Every inhale receives. Every exhale releases.
When we breathe consciously, we are sculpting our inner state.
The body’s network of diaphragms—pelvic floor, respiratory diaphragm, thoracic inlet, vocal diaphragm, and cranial diaphragm—are like pressure gates that maintain vertical rhythm in the spine. When these diaphragms coordinate, the body experiences integrity, lightness, and lift.
The Root Lock: Establishing the Base for Ascent
To rise without dissociating, we begin with the root.
Mula Bandha, the root lock, awakens the pelvic floor and seals prana at the base, allowing energy to travel upward. When lightly engaged, it creates an internal “draw” from the pelvis — subtle, intelligent, stabilizing.
A simple way to feel it:
Suck through a straw or fingertip — notice the pelvic floor’s natural response inward and upward.
This connection exists because the oral and pelvic diaphragms mirror each other through fascial and neural pathways. Engaging one brings awareness to the other.
When practiced intentionally, the root lock:
Grounds the nervous system
Builds core stability
Conserves life-force
Prepares the channel for ascension

Udana Vayu: The Ascending Current
This class focuses on Udana Vayu—the upward-moving wind of expression, clarity, and self-directed action.
Udana gives us:
Upright posture
Confidence in our voice
Discernment and truthful speech
The ability to lift, lead, and articulate
For Udana to rise cleanly through the throat, jaw, face, and crown, it must be supported by the lower triangle—root, sacral, and solar plexus.
Without grounding, ascent becomes destabilizing.
When you feel clear, honest, articulate, and internally lifted—Udana is alive in you.
When Breath Meets Tension: Where We Hold Ourselves Up
You may start to notice how breath changes under pressure.
Some hold tension at the pelvic floor, gripping unconsciously during stress. Others hold it in the throat and jaw, swallowing words or emotions.
Both are subtle survival responses.
Breathwork, humming, chest tapping, and lip fluttering help release these holding patterns and restore vagal tone—shifting the body from vigilance to presence.
A simple reset:
Tap below your collarbones with your fingertips
Hum gently on your exhale
Feel the chest soften, throat open, jaw unclench
This point is used in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and connects to the kidney meridian, associated with fear, vitality depletion, and the adrenals.
Kriyas: Breath-Led Rituals for Energy and Resilience
Unlike exercise, kriyas are bioenergetic practices—rhythmic movement + breath + focus to circulate prana through the body’s energetic pathways.
They clear stagnation, strengthen organs, regulate hormones, and build inner radiance.
When practiced consistently, kriyas accumulate charge — increasing clarity, vitality, and emotional steadiness.
In Vertical Current, we practice standing kriyas to train:
Strength through the legs and pelvis
Stability through the core
Lift through the spine
Expansion through breath
A touch of Fire is woven into this class through Cannon Breath—a vigorous, mouth-based exhale that pumps the belly and massages the organs.
As heat builds, the body becomes more radiant, alert, and alive.
Try This Now: Root to Rise (2–3 minutes)
Stand with feet hip-width apart, big toes grounded.
1. Root
Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.
On the next exhale, subtly engage the pelvic floor — just enough to feel lift.
2. Rise
Bring breath up the spine as if it were lengthening you from within.
Feel your crown lightly lift upward.
Ask: “What truth is ready to rise through me?”
Reflection Prompts for Integration
Choose one that resonates today:
How did the kriyas affect your energy, mood, or clarity?
Where do you tend to hold tension — pelvis, belly, heart, throat? What softens it?
Do you connect more through anatomy or philosophy? Which language brings you home to yourself?
