transactions

I finished watching Extrapolations.

In the final episode, Nicholas Bilton (the ego-centric capitalist who believes he can create the world in his order) has dinner with his newest executive, Martha Russel (the only woman and person with a conscience who cares for the planet and its inhabitants).

During their dinner of meat (not produced in a lab) and wine (the last bottle before the vineyard was destroyed by forest fires), Nick says that he is one of the few people living a ‘real’ life.

People prefer fantasy and facsimile, he says.

When Martha asks how he can justify his lifestyle, Nick tells her that life is a transaction.

Comfort is our greatest illusion; conveniences, control, and contentment come with a high price, and he (Nick Bilton) is one of the few willing to pay.

I watch a lot of beauty bloggers on TikTok.

I’m mystified, intrigued, and disgusted by what I see, yet I tune in every day with the same women to watch them adjust their faces with chemicals and creams.

One woman whose energy I LOVE (she is unabashed, clear, and funny) gets Botox, fillers, laser facials, and skin peels regularly.

Her reason? It keeps the skin plump, smooth, hydrated, oxygenated, and blemish-free.

There is a natural way to encourage a similar complexion, though perhaps with less drastic results. It’s called Yoga.

Yoga makes me more aware of how little control I have: It is not comforting or convenient to show up for practice every day. It is work, and it never stops.

I want people to accept themselves (as they physically shape-shift) and understand that our organs, glands, nerves, cells, and synapses have the power to aid physical, emotional, and energetic transformation.

If life is a transaction, I want every occurrence to stem from the sacred.

And so, the practice begins!

Sending you love and light,
Seraphina

Excerpt from Poem 2. ) on love

She plays the piano late at night, softly, so only I can hear through the wall we share.

It doesn’t occur when you think it will; the first time is foreplay.

Falling in love at a second glance.

The keys stick, and I ask her to water my plants while I’m gone.

I prefer silence, though I hate being alone.

Quote of the Week:

Hatred is the thing that divides, the force which discriminates.

It is so when two people fall in love; they are at first almost identical. There is a great deal of participation mystique, so they need hatred in order to separate themselves.

After a while the whole thing turns into a wild hatred; they get resistances against one another in order to force each other off—otherwise they remain in a common unconsciousness which they simply cannot stand.

Carl Jung

1 question to brew on:

  • What transactions do you engage in, and why? What is the energy or intention you bring to each exchange?
