pursuing prisms

What are we doing if not sweeping
our hands wide to touch the sacred?
— Seraphina Dawn

There is only one conversation worth having: the discussion of Divine Intervention or God Consiousness.

I used to attach romantic longing to a person. I chased Euphoria with the determination of a child being pushed on a wooden swing.

Can you recall being pushed on a swing? The comfort of knowing someone's hands would catch you each time and propel you higher and higher—the wind in your mouth, mixing with giggles and screams of exhilaration.

I seek glory in temporary events; some things are romantic only because you know there is a finite ending. Like running in the rain, it's only enjoyable if I know I can go somewhere to dry off and get warm afterward. Otherwise, I'm a soggy mess waiting for the sunshine.

This is why I attach my desire to individuals who are fleeting, fickle, and fantastic... I willingly jump in, head-first, knowing it will be ruinous, wonderful, and, ultimately, temporary.

There must be a rainbow outside a window somewhere, and I'm on the prowl to peep through every aperture until I find it!

Isn't it glorious to spot something magnificent and entirely out of reach?

Rainbows are a release after the rains, and isn't this what I seek through Love? A liberation from the mundane, a respite from the withdrawal, and a reason to rise and peer through the blinds on another day.

My first brush of love was with a boy my age. I can't tell you five true things about his person, yet when I close my eyes and remember how I felt near him, my entire being lights up.

It is the same sensation I feel when standing in the presence of a prismatic band of light.

Rainbows are a full circle, but because of where we stand on the ground, we can only see half. To see the full circumference, we must be airborne: of the sky.

Being of the material realm (the earthly, human realm), we only perceive a little via the senses, which is why my quest is to step back and enter the conscious realm (the unseen, heavenly realm) to perceive the Greater Story.

Viola!—thus, my daily Kundalini Sadhana was initiated.

I could stick with the pragmatic narrative of what creates an electromagnetic spectrum of light, OR I can adjust my lens to witness rainbows as a scientific formula AND a metaphor for something mystical.

What are we doing if not sweeping
our hands wide to touch the sacred?

In Roman/Greek mythology, it was believed that the Goddess Iris created a rainbow as a pathway to the heavens. Wearing a cloak of magnificent color, Iris descended to the earthly plane to paint a prism between the human and the Divine realm.

The rainbow was a path to divinity: a dialogue with the unseen, unparalleled God Consciousness.

The Rainbow is Love: I can attach it to a specific point in time via a person, place, or event, OR I can pursue the prism as a portal to the sacred.

Does knowing that the thing is always there, waiting for you, make it less appealing? Is romance addictive because of its capacity for ruin?

I’ve always said that I attract lovers like hair in the bathtub: every time I go to catch it, it slips away! Right between my fingers…

In every relationship, be it with another person or ourselves, we have the innate capacity to go beyond the borders of the senses to connect with something far more potent, powerful, and present.

Call it whatever you wish; other names I like using for Divine Intervention are the Creative Force or the Inner Teacher.

In Kundalini Yoga, my preferred practice that blends the scientific with the mystical (like my girl, Simone Weil), every class opens with the invocation: Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo.

It translates as 'I Bow to the Divine Spirit Within.'

With spiritual maturation, I've discovered that it is far more sustainable, enjoyable, and reassuring to attach my romantic longing to that eternal, unseeable essence that I feel flicker and whirl inside of me whenever I spot a rainbow.

Or when I have a new crush (be it a writer, romance, or friend!)

I love being in love! It is the absolute state of enchantment. I long for that dance between despair and desire. In my experiences through rejection and heartache, I’ve discovered that I need both to appreciate the beauty of surrendering to the disquiet of being in Love.

My biggest leap in faith and advancement in conscious liberation has occurred through the decision to link this grand vessel inside me to an eternal essence outside of the human realm. Instead of pinning my Love on a specific person, place, or thing, I’ve placed it in a container:

Reiki. Dancing. Yoga. Reading. Writing. These simple actions bring me to my knees as a reminder of the sacred.

The point is to keep showing up. To keep having faith in Divine Intervention that reveals itself when least expected. To keep Waiting in the Wings, as I like to say, and to trust that these moments of ecstatic, all-encompassing Love will arrive like the Rainbow.

Wishing you prisms of brilliant light,

Seraphina.

Quote to F O C US Your Attention -

“And all the while, awake and asleep, we tell ourselves stories—great compelling stories, little amusing stories, strange and spooky stories—stories that stretch our awareness and pull us further and further into the great unknown possibility of ourselves.”
