You can’t measure the mutual affection of two human beings by the number of words they exchange.
— Milan Kundera.

Things he left behind:

  • One lighter (black).

  • One hair elastic (also black).

  • Six curly hairs knotted to said elastic.

    (dark brown and black).

  • The sensation of his mouth on my skin;

    shoulder, collar bone, neck, cheek.

  • An invitation to California.

  • Empty cardboard box smeared with curry paste.

Things I hope for:

To be filled by the wind; a cold lash against the sun.

Him to be in love—reverently and ecstatically—with each stone, sparrow, smile, and seed.

Devotion: memento mori, promise your words and don’t cling so tightly to what you see. Sensation seeps into the soul and settles at the heart space. Stay there.

Later ∙ exclamation ∙ goodbye to the present; see you later.
From Greek latrēs ⥱ worshipper.

Late ∙ adjective ∙ flowering or ripening toward the end of the season.
