mystics

I adore individuals who blend science with mysticism.

Simone Weil and Clarissa Pinkola Estes are two who quickly come to mind.

Mystics are those who believe; they follow their hearts and have faith in the universal truths that unfold.

The more I recognize the laws of the cosmos and adhere to its rhythms, the more aligned I feel.

I use mudras to navigate the challenges and changes that ruffle my feathers.

Mudras are sacred gestures that evoke a particular energy in the body. Yoga poses and kriyas are also mudras.

The mystic in me loves the bio-spiritual system, while the scientist wonders how mudras work.

How Mudras Work:

Everything in your body is innervated by the nerves attached to your spine. Exerting pressure or repeated movements in a particular area (fingertips, gut, toes, tongue, for example) stimulate the nerve endings and modulate various parts of your brain to activate specific energy pathways and release hormones.

Mudras have been used for centuries for ritual and release.

Some tips I use in mudra reflection:

  • Keep a journal handy to jot down notes afterward. Symbols, colors, sensations, imagery, and sounds may appear.

  • Be patient! Let whatever comes naturally.

  • Create a comfortable seat or lie down so you feel comfortable.

I’ve included a mudra I’m working with below.

I am sending you love and light from my fingertips to my toes!

To Do Surya Mudra:

  • Curl the ring finger toward the base of the thumb.

  • Press the second phalanx of the ring finger with the thumb pad.

  • Extend the index, middle, and pinky fingers.

Quote of the Week:

We are not going in circles, we are going upwards.
The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps.

Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

1 question to brew on:

  • Where does the mystic within you live? What brings out your inner mystic? What activities, sounds, people, places, songs, words, rhythms? ???
